Introduction
Advancing immunology together
The Center for Immunology of Marseille-Luminy (CIML) brings together 16 research teams covering all fields of modern immunology, from molecular biology to therapeutic applications. This diversity allows the CIML to address fundamental immunological questions while developing translational approaches for human health, positioning our institute as a major player in immunology research in France and Europe.
CIML teams are developing a comprehensive approach to immunology, combining the study of molecular mechanisms of cell recognition and signaling with the complex interactions between immune cells in different tissues. Research spans the development and differentiation processes of the immune system to pathological dysfunctions, particularly in the context of infections, inflammation, and cancer.
INNATE IMMUNITY
Innate immunity is a major focus of research at CIML, with teams dedicated to understanding the first lines of defense. This research covers the biology of dendritic cells and their role in antiviral defense, the immunobiology of inflammation, innate lymphoid cells, mucosal immunity, immune system development, central nervous system immunosurveillance, neuronal regulation of immunity, and stromal cell immunology.
ADAPTIVE IMMUNITY
Adaptive immunity is another major focus of research at CIML, with teams exploring specialized mechanisms of immune recognition and memory. This research includes T cell signaling and membrane dynamics, integrative B and T cell biology, immune tolerance mechanisms, B cell immunity to infections, analysis of adaptive repertoires, and the pathogenesis of lymphoid neoplasias.
This multi-scale and interdisciplinary approach allows for an in-depth understanding of immune responses and opens the way to new therapeutic strategies in human health.
