11/2007, Accreditation to supervise research (HDR; Immunology), Aix Marseille University.
06/1999, PhD, Immunology, University Paris 6.

07/1994, Master, Biology & Biochemistry, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris.
Expertise: Dendritic cell (DC) biology, antiviral/tumor immunity, functional genomics, single-cell omics.
Objective: Understanding how DC types and activation states control disease, in viral infections, cancers, inflammatory disorders.
Major Achievements
PhD (with Drs Jean-Gérard Guillet & Elisabeth Gomard, Cochin Institute, Paris): Phenotypic, functional, and antigenic repertoire characterization of anti-HIV-1 CD8+ T cells (1996: AIDS Res Hum Retroviruses; 1998: J Infect Dis; 1999: J Virol, Eur J Immunol, J Clin Invest).
Post-doc (with Pr. Christine A. Biron, Brown University, Providence, RI, USA): Discovery and first in vivo functional study of murine plasmacytoid DC (pDC) (2001: Nat Immunol; 2002 & 2003: J Exp Med).
CIML (team leader since 2004): Deciphering the identity, functions, and molecular regulation of pDC and cDC1.
*Mechanisms controlling interferon production by murine pDC and their functional diversification (2002 & 2003: J Exp Med; 2018: EMBO J; 2020 & 2023: Nat Immunol), with a deleterious role in severe respiratory viral infections (2025: Nat Immunol).
*Identification of equivalencies between human & mouse DC types, including between human CD141(BDCA3)+ and murine CD8α/CD103+ DC (2008: Genome Biol; 2010: J Exp Med), via comparative genomics applied to immune cells; pioneering cross-species studies that initiated the development of a simplified, universal nomenclature for DC types (2010: Immunol Rev, Eur J Immunol, Blood), which contributed to inform the current designation of human CD141+ and murine CD8α/CD103+ DC as type 1 conventional DC (cDC1).
*Identification of XCR1 as a specific marker of cDC1, linked to their terminal differentiation and interaction with cytotoxic lymphocytes (2008: Genome Biol; 2010: J Exp Med; 2011: J Immunol; 2018: Cell Rep).
*Functional specialization of cDC1: induction of protective anti-tumor/antiviral immunity (2010 & 2016: J Exp Med; 2021: iScience, Clin Transl Immunol, Sci Immunol).
*Concept of homeostatic tolerogenic vs. immunogenic maturation of DCs (2014: EMBO J; 2018: Immunity; 2025: Immunol Rev).
*In vitro generation and genetic manipulation of human cDC1 and pDC from hematopoietic stem cells (2014: J Immunol; 2018: Cell Rep; 2023: bioRxiv).
