About
Dr Frédéric Vély graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Paris. He obtained his PhD in
immunology at the CIML in 1998, working on the molecular dissection of ITIM-carrying inhibitory receptors.
In 2004, he moved to Inserm U908 at the Timone campus to study the role of CD146/NCAM in both endothelial cells
and lymphocytes by generating CD146 KO mice and identifying new ligands.
In 2009, he rejoined Prof Vivier’s team to study the role of innate lymphocytes in humans under physiological and
pathological conditions. This clinical research is carried out at Timone Hospital, where he is responsible for the
Marseille Immunopole Profiling Platform, certified by both the Federation Of Clinical Immune Societies (FOCIS) and
the Paris Saclay Cancer Cluster (PSCC).
He is also head of the Department for the Biological Diagnosis of Inherited Immunodeficiencies (CEREDIH) at the
Biogenopole of the Timone Hospital.
F. Vely is involved in education, mentoring students, teaching immunology at undergraduate and masters level and
leading an M1 module entitled “Clinical and Diagnostic Immunology”.
