About

After following a traditional academic path, Carole Siret was recruited in 2007 by Aix-Marseille University as a research engineer at the Center for Oncobiology and Oncopharmacology (CRO2). Over the next ten years, she devoted herself to developing cancer research projects, notably studying the role of cadherins in tumor development. Her work initially focused on melanoma, the subject of her doctoral thesis, which she defended in 2011, before expanding to include pancreatic cancer.
Driven by a strong passion for cellular imaging, she chose in 2018 to join the CIML (Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy) to join a pioneering team in the development of an innovative 3D imaging technology: Lightsheet microscopy. Today, she is a research engineer at CIML in Dr. Serge van de Pavert's team, specialized in Lightsheet microscopy, and works on the development and optimization of this technology, both within the institute and at the national level. Her expertise is also recognized through her active participation in technological networks, such as France Bio Imaging, where she contributes to the advancement of cutting-edge imaging techniques.
In addition to her technology development activities, she also leads scientific research projects. In 2022, she published a study on the heterogeneity of perivascular cerebral macrophages in Nature Communications. She is currently involved in research projects aimed at better understanding the development of the immune system, particularly the establishment of lymph nodes during embryogenesis.
Carole plays an active role within the CIML, where she is employed as a prevention assistant, a member of the "career unit" and the jury of the Master 1 in immunology. She also contributes to the organization of various events, such as the science festival and the institute's scientific retreats.
At the same time, she is fully involved in the life of her institution, Aix-Marseille University (AMU). As a "Business Expert for Scientific BAPs," she participates in the evaluation of AMU agents' promotion files and sits on the Joint Interclassification Commission (CCI). She is also a member of juries for CNRS external competitions.
An in-house trainer at AMU, Carole provides competitive exam preparation sessions. Her involvement also extends to representative bodies, both local and national: she is elected to the UFR Sciences Council, the F3SCT (Specialized Training in Health, Safety and Working Conditions), and the CSA (Social Administration Committee) of AMU. At the national level, she sits as an elected representative on the CAPN Category A (National Joint Administrative Commission) for the Ministry of National Education and Research.
