R. Roncagalli a obtenu son PhD en biologie moléculaire en 2007, dans le laboratoire d’André Veillette à l’Université de Montréal (Canada). Il y a étudié de nouvelles classes d’adaptateurs moléculaires (famille SAP) et de récepteurs (famille SLAM) et a démontré le rôle biologique fondamental de ces protéines dans les cellules NK.
En tant que chercheur postdoctoral, il a ensuite rejoint l’équipe de Bernard et Marie Malissen au Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy (CIML) pour travailler sur la signalisation des lymphocytes T. En 2010, R. Roncagalli a obtenu un poste permanent de chargé de recherche (CR) au CNRS afin de développer et d’étudier des modèles expérimentaux qui ont largement contribué à modifier notre compréhension fondamentale de l’activation des lymphocytes T.
Depuis 2024, Romain Roncagalli est responsable de l’équipe « Biologie intégrative des lymphocytes T », qui travaille sur les mécanismes moléculaires à l’origine de l’activation des lymphocytes T en utilisant des approches expérimentales combinant génétique murine, biologie des systèmes, modélisation et analyses par spectrométrie de masse.
